Residents are invited to drop off items for reuse, recycling and safe disposal at our upcoming Environment Days:
Durham Region will celebrate National Public Works Week (NPWW) May 19 to 25 to recognize the vital services our public works employees provide each and every day. From providing clean drinking water, to collecting waste at the curbside, to maintaining our Regional Roads, and keeping Regional facilities safe and operational, public works is there for you.
As part of Durham Vision Zero, Durham Region is making bicycle crossings easier and safer for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians by installing crossrides along multi-use path routes at intersections throughout the region.
A crossride is a dedicated space at an intersection where cyclists can legally ride their bicycle through the intersection without dismounting.
The Region of Durham’s Cochrane Street Bridge Replacement Project was recently awarded Good Roads’ 2023 Municipal Concrete Award.
The Cochrane Street Bridge in the Town of Whitby crosses over the busy Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Rail.
The rates for waste disposal have increased at the Region’s Waste Management Facilities to meet rising costs from contracted services while ensuring customer service standards continue to be met. Only loads containing chargeable materials, including mixed loads containing both free and chargeable materials, will be subject to the fee increases.
The Region of Durham has teamed up with the area municipalities to offer free compost to residents at special events taking place across the region from April 27 to June 8.
These are self-serve events.
The number of construction projects increases as the weather warms up. To protect the safety of workers, other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, all drivers are reminded to slow down and proceed with caution through construction zones or areas where workers are present.
Durham Region has moved from the customer self-assessment (TeleRead) water meter card program to full water meter readings by Meter Readers. This eliminates the need for customers to provide readings and reduced the number of estimated bills.
