Animal Services
Our municipal enforcement officers advocate for the safety and well-being of dogs in the City of Iqaluit with education, collection and licensing.
Pet licences
Pets are required to be registered with the City of Iqaluit on an annual basis no later than January 5 of the new calendar year.
Dog and cat registration is free of charge.
Pets that have a City tag attached can easily be returned and at no cost if the owner can be located prior to impoundment. Once the animal is impounded, all associated fees and costs for its return will be incurred by the owner.
You can register your pet online or in person at Building #901.
To register your pet, complete a Pet Licences form.
Loose dogs
Dogs must wear their dog tag and be on a leash when off your property. Dogs are not permitted to chase, harass or attack animals or people.
Loose dogs are collected by municipal enforcement officers. Every effort is made to locate and contact the animal's owner within 72 hours. After 72 hours, the dog may be subject to local adoption, sent out of territory, or euthanized.
If you have lost your dog, visit Loose Dogs to see if it has been collected by one of our municipal enforcement officers.
