Property Taxes

The City of Iqaluit issues tax bills that cover City services and programs.

The mill rate, also known as the property tax rate, is a crucial factor in determining property taxes within the City of Iqaluit. It represents the amount of tax payable per dollar of the assessed value of a property. This rate is typically set annually by the municipal government and is based on various factors, including the city's budgetary requirements, projected revenue needs, and property assessments. Essentially, the mill rate is used to calculate property taxes owed by property owners, with the amount due being determined by multiplying the assessed value of the property by the mill rate. Understanding the mill rate is essential for residents and property owners in Iqaluit as it directly impacts their property tax obligations to the city.
