The City of Iqaluit's Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.

Committee of the Whole meetings are held monthly or when required. Committee meetings are held when required.

City Council and Committee of the Whole meetings are live-streamed and archived on the City of Iqaluit Facebook page. Committee meetings are not live-streamed.

Types of Meetings

Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 6p.m. Council must have at least five members present.

The Mayor may call a special meeting of Council at any time. Council must have at least five members present.

Committees of the Whole meet monthly and consist of members of Council and city resource staff. Council uses committees to bring issues forward and offer policy and operational recommendations on an ongoing basis. View our list of committees.

Committees meet monthly and include councillors, city resource staff and members of the public who contribute their skills and experience to city-wide issues. Public Meetings are for information or consultation requirements by the Planning Act to provide the community with an opportunity to give feedback about proposed planning applications.

There are two Boards separate to council. These boards are governed by the Planning Act and the Property Assessment and Taxation Act. A board has at least one council member as a member.

Committee meetings are an opportunity to voice your opinion.

If you participate in a meeting:

  • You can speak to a committee for up to five minutes
  • Councillors might ask you questions after you speak
  • Your name will be listed on the public record
  • You will appear in the live stream and archive of the meeting
