Marriage Licences

You can apply for a marriage certificate in the City of Iqaluit through the Government of Nunavut Health Department.

A marriage certificate is needed to:

  • Prove your marriage is legal
  • Ensure that the rights of spouses and children are respected
  • Apply for certain social benefits
  • Settle an estate
  • To change your surname to that of your spouse or to use a hyphenated surname

To get a marriage certificate, visit the Government of Nunavut Marriage Certificate page and fill out their online Application for Certificate form.
