Firework Permit
A Firework Permit helps Iqaluit Emergency Services be aware of locations where firing of explosives and smoke may be reported and help everyone enjoy firework displays safely while in compliance with the City of Iqaluit bylaws. Failure to obtain an approved permit may result in fines. For more information, please refer to By-Law #795.

Have a safe firework display
To minimize the risk of fire and burn injury, here are some important safety tips to be followed.
Prepare
- Appoint a responsible person to be in charge. Only adults (18+) who are aware of the hazards and essential safety precautions should handle and discharge fireworks
- Carefully read and follow the label directions on fireworks packaging
- Always keep a water hose or pail of water close by when discharging fireworks
Give space
- Discharge fireworks well away from combustible materials like buildings, cars and dry wood
- Discharge fireworks only if wind conditions do not create a safety hazard
- Keep spectators a safe distance away, upwind from the area where fireworks are discharged
Be safe
- Light only one firework at a time and only when they are on the ground
- Never try to light a firework in your hand
- Do not re-light dud fireworks; it is best to wait 30 minutes and soak them in a bucket of water before disposing of them in a metal container
- Keep sparklers away from children as they burn extremely hot and can ignite clothing, cause blindness and result in severe burns
- If someone gets burned, run cool water over the wound for three to five minutes and if necessary, seek medical attention
