Death Certificate

You can apply for a death certificate with the Government of Nunavut Health Department when a person dies in the City of Iqaluit.

Death certificates are used:

  • as legal proof of death
  • to settle an estate
  • by family members to get benefits like pensions and insurance

After a burial, a family member can obtain a Death Certificate. To do so, visit the Government of Nunavut Death Certificate page and fill out the online Application for Certificate form.

The City of Iqaluit does not hold death records. To request a Death Certificate by the legal next of kin, contact the Government of Nunavut Vital Statistics Rankin Inlet.
