YouthForce adds Cambridge location as job fair grows
Waterloo Region – YouthForce is taking its job fair to two cities this year, accepting applicants at events in both Kitchener and Cambridge.
Last year nearly 100 youth attended the fair in Kitchener, almost double from the previous year. “We expect that number to increase again this year as YouthForce gains momentum,” said Mina Fayez-Bahgat, Manager of Waterloo Region Housing/Clients Services in Housing Services.
“This program and agency partnership provides jobs and learnings that lead to opportunities for success in school and other employment in the community. Adding a Cambridge site will help us accommodate the growing number of applicants.”
The summer employment program gives youth between the ages of 15 and 24 who live in or near Region-owned community housing the opportunity to do work in their neighborhoods while building skills to help with their future careers.
A.W. took part in the program last year and says it prepared him for a job he recently landed. "YouthForce has been a pathway for me to grow as a person," he said. "It is one of the stepping stones that went a long way in helping me with my financial state."
The program is part of a Regional strategy to help break the cycle of poverty and create healthy communities and vibrant neighborhoods.
