What's open, what's closed, what's happening on the July 1 Canada Day long weekend?

Waterloo Region – Here’s a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Canada Day long weekend. This year Canada Day falls on Monday, July 1, 2019. 

What’s open or on a special schedule?:

Regional of Waterloo Customer Service line open 24/7 - 519-575-4400

Grand River Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule on Monday, July 1 (Canada Day). Service is free until the end of the day!

Charles Street Terminal - While GRT buses are no longer using Charles Street Terminal, customer service will remain there until the new GRT Customer Service Centre opens at King and Benton later this summer.

July 1: Customer Service at Charles Street Terminal open 8:15 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Ainslie Street Terminal 

July 1: Open - building hours: 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Ticket sales 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Closed 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) 

GRT Customer Service – 24/7 at 519-585-7555

GRT will begin collecting fares again on Tuesday, July 2. Remember to ride with your proof-of-payment (ie: valid EasyGO fare card, ticket/transfer or multi-ride card).

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum
Canada Day Celebration – Free Admission
Monday, July 1, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We’re throwing a party on Canada Day at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village!  See the new local transportation exhibit called Going Places in the museum and stroll the living history Village. This special event features live musical entertainment, interactive games, face-painting, live farm animals, and more. 10 Huron Road, Kitchener, 519-748-1914.

Schneider Haus National Historic Site
Canada Day Celebration – Free Admission
Monday, July 1, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Experience Schneider Haus daily themes all in one day – use your hands, learn some new skills and "make" some history! Canada Day cake served at 2 p.m. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. meet mosaic artist Sophie Drouin, our 2019 Artist-in-Residence. At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sophie will offer a slide presentation and talk on her work. Visit the Storytelling in Stone exhibit. 466 Queen Street South, Kitchener, 519-742-7752.

McDougall Cottage Historic Site
Canada Day Celebration – Free Admission
Monday, July 1, 1 to 4 p.m.
Join us at the Cottage as we celebrate Scottish-Canadian heritage with crafts, tours, special Canada Day treats (our popular mini-shortbread ice cream sandwiches) and more!  Celtic harper and songwriter, Ruth Sutherland performs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Visit the More than Haggis and Kilts exhibit. 89 Grand Avenue, Cambridge, 519-624-8250.


Region of Waterloo International Airport – Open - Will not be affected. 

Waste, recycling, green bin and yard waste  
 
There is regular curbside collection on Monday, July 1,  please have items out by 7 a.m. 
   
Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites are closed for residential drop-off on Monday, July 1.

 What’s Closed:

All Regional Administrative Offices (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices) – Closed Monday July 1. 

All Region of Waterloo Library branches– Closed Monday, July 1.
 

Employment Resource Centres (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 235 King) – Closed Monday, July 1. 

Region of Waterloo Children’s Centres and Region of Waterloo Home Child Care offices – Closed Monday July 1.

Sunnyside Home Reception and Administration – Closed Monday, July 1

Sunnyside Wellness Centre – Closed Monday, July 1.

Community Alzheimer Day Program – Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge – Closed Monday, July 1.
