What to know about snow clearing and winter parking in Cambridge
Cambridge, Ontario. Jan. 4, 2018… With the winter season underway, the City of Cambridge would like to remind residents of the snow removal procedures in place to keep the roads and sidewalks safe for the whole community.
Cambridge city streets are cleared based on a priority schedule. Primary and secondary roads are cleared first with residential streets to follow after a significant snow fall resulting in 10 cm or more of snow. Major arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes are considered primary and secondary roads.
New this year, the City is piloting an online app that will allow residents to see where the plows have been to better gauge when it should be coming to their area. Find the app at www.cambridge.ca/winter.
“Community safety during winter weather events is our top priority and our snow removal procedures are in place to keep the city moving safely and efficiently,” remarks Gagan Sandhu, Manager of Roads Operations. “Our city crews do their best to work as quickly as possible and we appreciate the community’s cooperation as we all work to keep our roadways and sidewalks clear and safe.”
Sidewalks
Keeping sidewalks clear and safe for all residents is a joint effort between the City and the community. Property owners or occupants are required to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks at the front and side of their property within 36 hours of a snowfall. A map of City-maintained sidewalks can be found at www.cambridge.ca/winter.
For residents who are unable to clear their sidewalks due to health or mobility restrictions, Community Support Connections can offer support. For details call (519) 772-8787 or visit www.communitysupportconnections.org.
Snow events
The City declares snow events when 10 cm or more of snow is expected within 24 hours or when a significant winter storm is expected. Snow events may be cancelled or extended dependent on weather conditions. During a snow event, on-street parking is not permitted and vehicles on the street may be ticketed and/or towed. For more information and to sign up to receive snow event notifications, visit www.cambridge.ca/snow.
Winter parking
From January 1 to March 15, on-street parking is not permitted between 2:30 and 6 a.m. in Cambridge. On-street parking is also not permitted at any time during a snow event or for more than three consecutive hours. As a reminder, late night on-street parking is not permitted on regional roads or in downtown core areas year round.
