What’s open, what’s closed, what’s happening on the Canada Day long weekend (1)

Waterloo Region – Here’s a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Canada Day long weekend. This year Canada Day falls on Sunday, July 1, 2018.  Regional Service changes will apply to the observed holiday on Monday, July 2, 2018.

What’s open/not affected:

Regional of Waterloo Customer Service line Open 24/7-  519-575-4400

Grand River Transit will be operating on a Sunday Schedule on Monday, July 2

Plan ahead and pick up a Holiday Family Pass at either the Charles or Ainslie transit terminals.

Charles Street Terminal: 

July 1: Open - building hours: 8:10 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Ticket sales 8:15 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

July 2: Open - building hours: 8:10 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Ticket sales 8:15 am - 6:30 pm.

Ainslie Street Terminal 

July 1: Open - building hours: 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Ticket sales 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Closed 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) 

July 2: Open - building hours: 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Ticket sales 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Closed 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.)

Waterloo Region Museum

Sunday, July 1, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Waterloo Region Museum is throwing a party on Canada Day to celebrate Canada’s birthday and everyone is welcome to attend. Doon Heritage Village features musical entertainment and fun historic games like croquet and horseshoes. Waterloo Region Museum features our new exhibit called Canada and Germany: Partners from Immigration to Innovation that presents historical events over the centuries, inspiring stories of German immigrants, and innovative bilateral research projects and partnerships. 

Open Monday, July 2, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come by and explore our latest exhibit: Canada and Germany: Partners from Immigration to Innovation a fascinating look at the stories of our heritage and the connections that tie us together. 

Doon Heritage Village is open for the season! Take a stroll through our 60 acre historic village and visit with our farmyard friends. 

Schneider Haus National Historic Site
Sunday, July 1, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canada Day cake is served at 2 p.m. and while visiting you can also take part in the Schneider Challenge and complete a series of tasks that include using a cross cut saw, writing with a quill pen, and making a remedy. Also, visit our two exhibits while you’re here. The Keepsakes: Ojibway Quillwork exhibit features remarkable quill-decorated birch boxes that showcase the artistry of the Ojibway, and our Baggage: Carrying On within Two Worlds exhibit features the work of Naomi Smith (2018 Artist-in-Residence), a First Nations artisan and educator from Neyaashiinigmiing Ontario, who showcases her most recent beadwork creations in this fabulous exhibit.

Open Monday, July 2, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Laundry and Hygiene, Roll up your sleeves and learn how the Schneiders did the washing, mending, ironing, and cleaning without modern appliances and products.

McDougall Cottage Historic Site
Sunday, July 1, noon to 5 p.m.

Join us at the Cottage as we celebrate Scottish-Canadian heritage with crafts, tours, special Canada Day treats (our popular mini-shortbread ice cream sandwiches) and more!  Celtic harper and songwriter, Ruth Sutherland performs from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Closed Monday July 2.

Region of Waterloo International Airport – Open - Will not be affected. 

Waste, recycling, green bin and yard waste  
 
There is regular curbside collection on Monday, July 2,  please have items out by 7 a.m. 
   
Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites are closed for residential drop-off on Monday, July 2.

All Regional Administrative Offices (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices) – Closed Monday July 2. 

All Region of Waterloo Library branches– Closed Sunday, July 1 and Monday, July 2.

Employment Resource Centres (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 235 King) – Closed Monday, July 2. 

Region of Waterloo Children’s Centres and Region of Waterloo Home Child Care offices – Closed Monday July 2.

Sunnyside Home Reception and Administration – Closed Monday, July 2

Sunnyside Wellness Centre – Closed Monday, July 2.

Community Alzheimer Day Program – Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge – Closed Monday, July 2.
