What’s Open and What’s Closed during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays?

Waterloo Region – Here is a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays:


All Regional Administrative Offices
 (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices.) – Closed Friday, December 25, Monday, December 28, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016.


Grand River Transit

Grand River Transit buses will be running on weekday service with modifications to many routes from December 21, 2015 - January 3, 2016. Please check the Holiday Service page on www.grt.ca for details.

Friday, December 25:

·         Routes 1, 3, 8, 11, 20 Sunday service schedule.

·         Route 7 Reduced service schedule

·         Routes 51,52,55,56,58,59 and 60 – Sunday service schedule between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Saturday, December 26:

·         Sunday service schedule, with the exception of 200 iXpress which runs on a regular Saturday schedule.

Thursday, December 31:

·         New Year's Eve: Free rides on routes in service begin at 6 p.m.

Extended late night service is provided on some routes.

Saturday, January 1, 2016:

·         Sunday service schedule.


GRT Terminal hours
 – Please check the Holiday Service page on www.grt.ca  for Terminal Service Hours during the holidays.


Service first call centre
 – (519-575-4400) will not be affected.


Region of Waterloo International Airport
 Open and will not be affected.

Waste/recycling/green bin

Curbside collection changes: There will be no curbside waste collection on Friday, December 25, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016.  

Garbage, green bin and blue box collection will be delayed by one day following these two statutory holidays.

If your regular collection day is Friday; your waste will be collected on Saturday for these two weeks.

The regular collection schedule will resume on January 4, 2016.


Special Christmas tree collection
will occur from January 4, 2016 – January 15, 2016 on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day. 

Please make sure that all items are set out to the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

Residential drop-off: All waste sites will be closed for residential drop-off on Friday, December 25, Saturday, December 26 and Friday, January 1, 2016. 

Regular hours of operations will resume on Saturday, January 2.

Regional Children’s Centres 
Closed
 Friday, December 25, and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2016. 

Licensed Home Child Care Licensed Home Child Care operating as usual unless specified by your provider.


Sunnyside Seniors Services
Sunnyside Home Reception – Open Friday, December 25, Open Saturday, December 26, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016.

Sunnyside Wellness Centre – Closed Friday, December 25, Saturday, December 26, 2015 and Friday and January 1, 2016.

Region of Waterloo Employment Centres (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 235 King)
Closed Friday, December 25th, Monday, December 28, 2015 for Boxing Day and Friday, January 1, 2016. 


All Regional Libraries 
All branches are Open on Thursday, December 24, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Closed on Friday, December 25 and Saturday, December 26, 2015

Open Thursday, December 31, 2015: all branches open 10 am to 1 pm

 

Doon Heritage Village
Closed for season December 24.
Opens for the new season on May 1.

 

Waterloo Region Museum
Closed on December 25, 26, January 1 and January 4 to 10.

Opens for the new year on January 11.

 

Joseph Schneider Haus
Closed for season. Opens for the new season on February 13.

 

McDougall Cottage
Closed for season. Special opening: Family Day, February 15.
Opens for the season on March 3.
