Waterloo Region vaccination clinics welcome 5-11 year olds on first-dose Friday

Waterloo Region – Today, Waterloo Region began administering children’s doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 5-11 year olds to protect them against the virus and the highly transmissible Delta variant. Many eager families and children booked an appointment for today, the first day this age group is able to get the vaccine at a regional vaccination clinic, doctor’s office or pharmacy in our community.

“We’re just as eager as parents and families to get the children’s dose of the vaccine into arms as quickly as possible,” said Vickie Murray, Lead for the Region of Waterloo vaccine rollout. “It’s exciting to see our vaccination clinics busy administering children’s doses of the vaccine. We hope everyone will make an appointment for their 5-11 year olds to get a first dose before the holidays.”

Clinic staff have been preparing to make every child’s vaccination experience a positive one. Clearly this is the case today for Raya (age 7) and her sister Sky (age 5) shown in the photo getting a first dose of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine at The Boardwalk Vaccination Clinic. With encouragement from their mother and clinic staff, each girl celebrated her first dose with a high five.
