Waterloo Region’s Healthy Workplace Awards

Region of Waterloo Public Health launched Waterloo Region’s Healthy Workplace Awards Program in October 2009. This program recognizes and celebrates workplaces in Waterloo Region who demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the health of their employees.

The 4th annual awards celebration is being held on October 24th during Healthy Workplace Month. This awareness month is dedicated to encouraging Canadian organizations to promote the benefits of workplace health.

“Workplaces are in a unique position to be leaders in supporting healthy lifestyles of their employees and the people they serve,” says Sanjay Govindaraj, Manager, Healthy Living Division, “Workplace wellness programs and policies that businesses and organizations put in place recognize that the health and well-being of their employees is paramount and contribute to the health of the community as a whole.”

Through adopting a comprehensive workplace health promotion approach to wellness programming, workplaces may receive one of the three award levels (bronze, silver, or gold). “In order to make the greatest impact on the wellness of employees and the company, a variety of health promotion strategies should be considered and applied in wellness planning and programming” says Sanjay Govindaraj.

**Businesses will be available for interviews and photo opportunities.
