Waterloo Landfill celebrates Waste Reduction Week with public tours

Waterloo Region – To celebrate Waste Reduction Week, the Region of Waterloo is offering free public tours on Saturday, October 24 at the Waterloo landfill site. Buses will be available to give residents a guided tour of the landfill operation and the Nyle Ludolph Materials Recycling Centre. Residents can take a closer look at garbage, green bin and recycling collection trucks, and landfill vehicles. Displays featuring the blue box, green bin and other waste diversion programs will also be available.

 Bus tours will run on the hour and the half hour and are suitable for all ages.

What: Public tours of the Waterloo landfill.

When: Saturday, October 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

How: Call ahead to reserve your seat on the bus: 519-575-4400. If you require accessibility assistance to participate in the landfill tours, please let us know at time of booking. 

Where: Enter at Gate 3, the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Complex, 1001 Erb Street West, Waterloo, ON.

 Residents are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to the environment during Waste Reduction Week. Take simple steps to ease the burden on the earth’s resources: recycle old cell phones, plan a waste-free lunch or donate gently used items.
