Waste collection over the Easter holiday weekend

Waterloo Region – There is regular curbside waste collection on Friday, April 14, 2017, and on Monday, 17, 2017.

With all the new waste changes, the Region of Waterloo would like to remind residents that there will be regular curbside waste collection on Friday, April 14, 2017, and Monday, April 17, 2017. All Region of Waterloo waste management sites will be closed for residential drop-off on Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17, 2017.

The first Double Garbage Days will be the weeks of April 17 to 28. Residents that receive the Region’s curbside waste collection can put out double the amount of garbage on their regular scheduled garbage day following the Good Friday statutory holiday. All single family homes can put out up to eight (8) untagged garbage bags or cans, and small apartment buildings (3 – 6 units) can put up to twenty (20) bags or cans.  Double Garbage Days occur four times a year on your garbage day directly following Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

A summary of the collection schedule for the Easter holiday weekend:

  • Friday, April 14: Cambridge and Waterloo – garbage, blue box and green bin
  • Friday, April 14: Kitchener and Townships -  yard waste, blue box and green bin
  • Monday, April 17:  Cambridge and Waterloo – yard waste, blue box and green bin
  • Monday, April 17: Kitchener and Townships – garbage (double day), blue box and green bin

We thank residents for their remarkable acceptance, support and patience during the changes. We remind residents of a few collection tips:

  • Please have all waste items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Collection times can vary for many reasons such as construction and route changes.
  • There is a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 pounds) for each bag, can, box, bin or bundle.
  • Refresh your recycling knowledge by using the Waste Whiz search tool on our website.
  • Get collection day reminders on your smartphone with the My Waste app.
