Waste collection delayed in tri-cities

Waterloo Region – Traffic challenges involving the opening of the new Costco in Waterloo have resulted in delays to garbage, green bin and recycling collection for residents in the Tuesday collection area of the tri-cities. The Waterloo landfill is across the street from the new Costco, and traffic congestion this morning resulted in long waits for garbage and recycling trucks to access the landfill to drop off material. Delays in emptying trucks midway through the day have resulted in crews falling behind for the rest of the day’s collection.

Crews picking up garbage, green bin and recycling in the tri-cities will attempt to collect as much as possible from the Tuesday collection areas. However, it is expected that some streets will remain uncollected.  Residents are asked to please leave items at the curb for collection on Wednesday.

Trucks will return to finish collection in the Tuesday areas on Wednesday.  If waste remains uncollected after Wednesday, residents are asked to please bring it in from the curb and notify the Region’s customer service group at 519-575-4400. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank residents in advance for their cooperation.  Wednesday collection is expected to proceed as usual.

Collection in the townships is expected to be completed on Tuesday as usual.

Additional information on all waste collection and diversion programs can be found on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste.  If residents have any questions regarding collection or issues to report, please call Customer Service at 519-575-4400.
