Unifor safety barrier demands already met

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo values the safety and security of both GRT customers and employees.

Over a week ago, the Region and Unifor agreed to install safety barriers on all 278 GRT buses over the next three years beginning in 2020, at an estimated cost of $1.7 million. Every bus is equipped with multiple cameras to provide for the safety and security of members of the public and our employees. 

We understand this service disruption is difficult for those who depend on GRT services. The Region remains open and ready to negotiate and has extended an invitation to the Union to meet and resume talks.
