Two week intersection closure begins June 8 at Columbia and the CN railway tracks

Waterloo Region – GrandLinq has advised the Region of Waterloo that the intersection of Columbia and the CN railway tracks will be closed for two weeks beginning on or about Monday, June 8.

During this time, Columbia will be closed to all traffic between Philip and Hagey. This will allow GrandLinq crews to remove and replace the CN railway tracks in this area, upgrade and relocate underground utilities and install the permanent light rail transit infrastructure. The intersections at Philip and Hagey will remain open during this time.

Construction will generally take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, however, crews will work around the clock for an 88-hour period during both weekends of the closure. These extended work periods will ensure trains are able to resume regular service on Monday.

Prior to and immediately following the closure, GrandLinq may temporarily close lanes on Columbia with two-way traffic maintained during this time.

Advance signs alerting drivers, pedestrians and cyclists of the closure are in place. Detour and way-finding signage directing drivers, pedestrians and cyclists around the intersection closure will be placed prior to work commencing.
