The public is invited to explore plans for the future King Victoria Transit Hub
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener are hosting an open house on May 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Regional Administrative Headquarters, 150 Frederick Street, Kitchener, to share the latest plans for the future King Victoria Transit Hub and gather public input on design options for Waterloo Street.[A1]
The Region has purchased land at the corner of King and Victoria Streets in downtown Kitchener for a transit hub. The future transit hub will include residential, office and retail space and will connect many different types of transportation including ION light rail transit, Grand River Transit, expanded GO train and bus service, VIA Rail, intercity buses, car share and amenities for transit riders, pedestrians and cyclists. It will bring people and businesses to Waterloo Region and connect them to the Toronto-Waterloo Region innovation corridor.
At the open house, the Region will share the latest plans for the transit hub including several new site illustrations for the mixed-use development. The Region is also looking for feedback on options for connecting pedestrians to the transit hub via Waterloo Street, which is now closed to through traffic. Options will include a pedestrian overpass or underpass, as well as landscaping and other design features.
Residents are also encouraged to provide input online through our new tool, Engage Region of Waterloo. A link to the tool is available at regionofwaterloo.ca/transithub.
