The (CAW) Local 1106 (Sunnyside Home) and the Ontario Nurses’ Association, Public Health both reach contract agreements with the Region of Waterloo.

Waterloo Region – An agreement between the Region of Waterloo and CAW Local 1106 (Sunnyside Home), representing the Region of Waterloo’s Registered Practical Nurses, Personal Support, Laundry, Dietary and Maintenance workers has received ratification.

Highlights of the CAW agreement include:

  •  36 month collective agreement from January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2015
  • Over the three year life of the agreement, the total compensation cost is 3.85 per cent, an average of 1.28 per cent, per year
  • Annual increases of:
    •  1.5 per cent in 2013
    •  1.25 per cent in 2014
    •  1.25 per cent in 2015
  • Improvements to language for paid holidays and overtime scheduling
  • Improvements to language for posting job vacancies
  • Improvements in scheduling availability for part-time staff

Current membership of CAW Local 1106 includes 356 full-time and part-time workers, employed at Sunnyside Home.

The Region of Waterloo has also reached an agreement with the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA), representing the Region of Waterloo’s Registered Nurses working in Public Health.

 Highlights of the ONA agreement include:

  • 36 month collective agreement from July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2016
  • Over the three year life of the agreement, the total compensation cost is 3.89 per cent, an average of 1.3 per cent per year
  • Annual increases of:
    • 1.5 per cent in 2013
    • 1.5 per cent in 2014
    • 1.5 per cent in 2015
  • Adjustments to benefits will result in efficiencies over the life of the agreement

Current membership of ONA Local 015 includes 138 full-time and part-time workers, employed in the Public Health Department.

These negotiated contract settlements between CAW Local 1106, ONA Local 015 and the Region of Waterloo will achieve the mutual goals of providing equitable and fair wages and working conditions, while maintaining and improving the quality and level of services provided.
