The Boardwalk vaccination clinic uses time capsule to reflect and celebrate one-year anniversary

Waterloo Region – Today marks the one-year anniversary of The Boardwalk vaccination clinic, one of the key locations in Waterloo Region that has been administering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for the past year. Staff and volunteers are celebrating their contribution to the vaccine rollout including administering approximately 235,000 doses to protect the residents of the community. Some are also contributing their reflections on the past year to a time capsule.

“Thanks to the dedication and commitment of all the staff and volunteers of The Boardwalk vaccination clinic, we have been able to successfully bring vaccines to thousands of Waterloo Region’s residents,” said David Aoki, Director of Infectious Diseases and Chief Nursing Officer for Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services. “The vaccination clinic at The Boardwalk has been integral to the success of the vaccine rollout so far and continues to provide a convenient opportunity for anyone to still get a COVID-19 vaccine.”

Since opening on March 4, 2021, staff from Region of Waterloo Public Health along with other health care professionals and many volunteers have been dedicated to the fight against COVID-19. To celebrate today’s one-year milestone, clinic staff and volunteers are contributing their reflections on the vaccine rollout to a time capsule.

“Working at public health saved my sanity during the pandemic. I felt helpless and hopeless, and being of service to my community by providing COVID-19 vaccination gave me hope. It’s been exhausting but so fulfilling to see the progress that’s been made and now the light at the end of the tunnel.” Public Health Staff Member

“Immunization of a child is often a challenging day for a child, parent and nurse. I will never forget the assistance of staff and volunteers to help ease and comfort young children afraid of getting their needle.” Volunteer
