Test Hebrew Characters

In the Hebrew text the word for inner parts/womb/etc. is טחות (tuhot - pronounced - two hote). This word only occurs twice in the Old Testament, here in Psalm 51 and in Job 38:36. In Job 38:36 the NIV renders the word “heart” - “who endowed the ‘heart’ with wisdom, or gave understanding to the mind?” Other Bible translations once again use the words “inner parts” or “inner most being.” Here is where the importance of language and interpretation can be seen.

In Hebrew, the word “inmost place” is סתם (satum - pronounced “sa toom”). This word “satum” is a verb that refers to “concealing, closing up or keeping secret, hiding.” It is no wonder many translators and commentators connect verse 6 with verse 5 and interpret verse 6 as referring to the womb of a mother. The womb is a closed-up place that conceals and covers a child until birth. But is this what Psalm 51:6 is referring to? I am not certain and I do not think so.
