Take the ION/UpTown Challenge

Waterloo Region – ION, the Region of Waterloo’s rapid transit service, and the UpTown Waterloo BIA, are partnering on a five-week social media campaign to encourage guests to visit UpTown Waterloo during ION construction.

Participants can get involved by taking an ION item with them to any UpTown Waterloo business. To enter, snap a photograph with an ION-branded item and link it to one of the key UpTown Waterloo BIA words – live, work, learn, play or shop.

“This is a great way for us to remind everyone that UpTown Waterloo is open for business during ION construction,” said Patti Brooks, Executive Director of the UpTown Waterloo BIA. “Participants can take ION with them as they shop for the holidays, learn at the library or play at a local restaurant. There’s no limit to the connections that can be made as you explore our vibrant UpTown.”

Each week, participants will be eligible to win $100 UpTown dollars. Any ION-branded item will qualify, including the ION Story, cardboard train, pen or button. These items, including information on the ION service, are available for pick-up at the UpTown Waterloo BIA office (Waterloo City Hall, 100 Regina Street South, Waterloo) or at Region of Waterloo Headquarters (1st Floor, 150 Frederick, Street, Kitchener).

“We’re delighted to partner with the UpTown Waterloo BIA on this initiative,” said Kimberly Moser, Manager, ION Community Relations. “We continue to work closely with the local BIAs during ION construction to spread the word that Waterloo Region remains open for business and continues to be a great place to live, work, shop and play.”

The ION/UpTown Challenge launches November 17 and runs through December 19. To participate, connect with the UpTown Waterloo BIA on Facebook at facebook.com/uptown.waterloo or Twitter at @UpTownWaterloo

A similar partnership with the Downtown Kitchener BIA will be launched in 2015 to coincide with ION construction in Downtown.
