Sustainable Happiness Workshop

Come and learn how a walkable and bikeable community helps people of all ages thrive!

Sustainable happiness, according to Dr. O’Brien, is “happiness that contributes to individual community, and/or global well being and does not exploit other people, the environment, or future generations.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Catherine O’Brien has been leading efforts in Canada to create child and youth friendly communities in which children, youth, and all residents can enjoy happier, healthier environments.

Join Dr. Catherine O’Brien for a free workshop on Monday April 30, 2012 from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at the Kitchener City Hall or Tuesday May 1, 2012 at the Cambridge City Hall to learn more and to participate in the discussion about building an active, healthy and happy Waterloo Region; the concept of Sustainable Happiness and its link to our overall health; and how an active community improves the overall health and well-being for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Active and Safe Routes to School is a program that promotes safe, walkable and bikeable communities. It engages both the community and schools to work together to make safe walking and cycling routes a reality for all children.

The Active and Safe Routes to School Workgroup promotes the activities of the Active and Safe Routes to School program and is comprised of representatives from Region of Waterloo Public Health, Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo, City of Cambridge, Ministry of Transportation and Green Communities Canada.
