Sunnyside Home receives first perfect score in quality and safety audit

Waterloo Region – For the first time ever, Sunnyside Home has achieved a perfect score in a nationally recognized quality and safety audit, giving the Region’s long term care home exemplary standing.

“Sunnyside Home has gone beyond the requirements of the accreditation program and demonstrates excellence in quality improvement,” said the report from Accreditation Canada, an independent organization that sets national standards for quality and safety in health care and accredits health organizations in Canada and around the world.

“A perfect score is a monumental achievement that could only be accomplished through the sustained efforts towards excellence by the entire Sunnyside team,” said Connie Lacy, Director of Seniors’ Services.

Sunnyside met or exceeded all 506 requirements around standards of excellence, safety practices to reduce potential harm, patient safety culture, and resident experience.

“The surveyors highlighted Sunnyside’s progress in quality improvement and client and family-centered care, the clean and welcoming environment and the effective partnerships between staff, service partners and volunteers,” said Lacy.

Sunnyside Home is part of a larger campus at 247 Franklin St. North in Kitchener that also includes supportive housing and community programs for older adults. It has been accredited for more than two decades and will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2019.
