Stage 2 ION public consultation continues (1)
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is continuing public consultation on Stage 2 ION, light rail transit (LRT) from Kitchener to Cambridge.
In June 2018, Region of Waterloo Council endorsed a Preferred Route for the Stage 2 ION project, subject to further evaluation of the portion of the route between Shantz Hill Road and Eagle Street North at William Street in Cambridge.
The project team have further considered route and station location refinements through this area and will present the evaluated refinements and the project team preferred route refinement through this area.
All interested parties are welcome to attend an informal, drop-in, public consultation centre on Wednesday, March 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Preston Memorial Auditorium, in Cambridge.
Following this round of public consultation the project team will collect and review new feedback and present the Project Team Preferred Refinement to the Region of Waterloo Planning and Works Committee for consideration.
ION bus service began in September 2015 and is the first step to providing LRT in Cambridge. Stage 2 ION will see the ION bus service between Kitchener and Cambridge converted to LRT, creating a continuous LRT network across the region’s three urban centres.
