Spring rain barrel sale returns to Waterloo Region (1)

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s popular rain barrel distribution is back this Saturday, May 11, 2019. The barrels are available for a discount price of $40. The program offers people in the region a simple way to conserve water and a convenient, free outdoor water source.

The one-day sale will be held in the parking lots of Conestoga Mall, Fairview Park Mall and Cambridge Centre. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. or whenever  supplies are gone. Barrels can sell out quickly, so come early to ensure you get one.

Buyers should bring identification to show they live in the Region of Waterloo. Cash, credit or debit cards are accepted, and there is a limit of one barrel per household.

The 200-litre barrels come with easy-to-use attachments including a hose to connect to other barrels and removable mosquito screens.

On May 11, watch the Region of Waterloo’s official social media accounts for updates on which locations have sold out and which still have rain barrels. Find us on both Twitter and Facebook at @RegionWaterloo.

The Region began offering subsidized rain barrels in 2001. Using these barrels to collect rain for watering plants or outdoor washing helps conserve treated drinking water. Catching rainfall also reduces stress on the community’s storm water system during heavy rainstorms.
