Spring on the Trail 2012: Building Bridges, Connecting Communities

Waterloo Region – Spring is in the air, and there’s no better way to celebrate than getting outdoors and enjoying one of Waterloo Region’s many trails. The second annual Spring on the Trail hike, run, bike or walk challenge will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Guelph, Ariss, West Montrose, Elmira, Wallenstein, Linwood and Millbank from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Support your local naturalized Trailway by coming out to one of the communities on the trail to participate in many events and activities such as, an Amazing Race for kids in West Montrose, a community BBQ in Linwood, a pie eating contest at Anna Mae’s in Millbank, or challenge yourself, friends and family to bike, hike, run or walk, the trail.

Fourteen years ago, the County of Wellington and Region of Waterloo partnered to lease a 44.5-kilometre stretch of abandoned rail right-of-way from the Province for development as a multi-use recreational trail from the outskirts of Guelph to Millbank. Today, the Kissing Bridge Trailway is operated under the stewardship of six community groups who have developed various sections of the trail; these groups depend on donations to support ongoing work to complete the trail.

You can also purchase Kissing Bridge Trailway passports, which will raise funds for the cost of ongoing trail infrastructure. Passports are available to purchase as an individual/family, a group, business or as a corporation. You can buy passports online or visit one of the passport sales locations in the community. A passport provides access to the local events taking place Saturday and gives the purchaser a chance at some great prizes, including a $2,500 travel voucher, a $500 prepaid credit card, various restaurant gift certificates, golf foursome gift certificates and Geo-"CASH" on the trail.

If you choose to participate on Saturday, May 12 by getting out on the trail and biking, hiking, walking, running or by participating at events at community check points, you have the chance to win even more prizes.
