Smart About Salt™ training helps businesses prepare for winter

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is hosting salt management training offered through the Smart About Salt™ Council on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Cambridge.

Last winter’s salt shortage and sub-freezing temperatures created challenges for winter operations staff. The Smart About Salt™ one-day course teaches facility managers responsible for contractors or winter operations staff on methods to reduce salt use while improving site safety.

“Since attending the Smart About Salt™ training I have come a long way with understanding the use of rock salt in our parking lot and walkways,” said Judie Dorak, National Facilities Manager, Staples Advantage Canada. “The information helped us improve our winter operation practices while reducing overall salt use.”

The Region of Waterloo offers the training as part of its commitment to protecting our water. “Salt impacts our water. Smart About Salt™ training is one way businesses can help protect our water from the over use of salt,” said Eric Hodgins, Manager, Hydrogeology and Source Water, Region of Waterloo.

Training takes place on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Region of Waterloo’s Operations Centre, 100 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge. The $225 + H.S.T. fee covers the full day training and lunch. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required.
