Separate yard waste collection begins this month in the Region

Waterloo Region – Separate collection of yard waste will soon begin across the Region. Yard waste is collected every second week on residents’ garbage collection day.

For town residents in North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich Townships:

  • Depending on location, residents can put out their yard waste beginning either the week of March 25 (Wellesley, North Dumfries, Woolwich) or April 1 (Wilmot).
  • 2013 calendars were delivered detailing all the services, including the yard waste collection schedule.

For residents of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, please see the attached schedule:

  • In Cambridge and Waterloo, yard waste collection begins the week of March 25.
  • In Kitchener, yard waste collection begins the week of April 1.
  • The collection schedule can be found online at: ww.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste.
  • The 2012/2013 Tri Cities Guide to waste management services included the 2013 yard waste collection schedule.

Yard waste includes grass clippings, tree branches, pine cones, garden material and other compostable yard waste.

To ensure yard waste is collected, residents should:

  • Place yard waste out to the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.
  • Use only kraft paper bags or garbage cans with a brightly coloured ribbon or yard waste sticker.
  • Set bags or cans apart from garbage and recycling.
  • Bundle brush together no longer than 92 cm (3 ft.) in length.
  • Ensure all bags, bundles or reusable containers weigh less than 23 kg (50 lbs.).

Yard waste is not collected in plastic bags or in blue boxes.
