Seeking public feedback on proposed curbside waste collection options for single family households

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s Waste Management Services division invites residents to attend a Public Input meeting to provide feedback to Council on two preliminary options for curbside waste collection for single family households. The options standardize service across Waterloo Region, and were developed as a result of staff research, public consultation, and financial considerations are:

Option 1: Bi-weekly Garbage Collection 

  •  Four garbage bag limit per bi-weekly collection (potential to reduce to three bags);

  • Unlimited weekly blue box and green bin collection;

  • Bi-weekly yard waste collection (April to November);

  • Bi-weekly appliance and bulky item pick-up, three item limit;

  • Existing special and downtown business services; and

  • Bag tag program for extra waste

 

Option 2: Weekly Garbage Collection

  • Two garbage bag limit per weekly collection (potential to reduce to one bag);

  • Unlimited weekly blue box and green bin collection;

  • Bi-weekly yard waste collection (April to November);

  • Bi-weekly appliance and bulky item pick-up, three item limit;

  • Existing special and downtown business services; and

  • Bag tag program for extra waste

Residents are invited to a special Public Input Meeting on the proposed curbside collection service changes, on May 6, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in Regional Council Chambers at 150 Frederick Street, Kitchener.  

Members of the community have the opportunity to register as a delegate and give their feedback on the options to members of Council at this time.  To register, please contact the Clerks office at 519-575-4400.  Anyone unable to attend the meeting is invited to make a written submission via the Clerks office, 150 Frederick Street, Kitchener, ON N2G 4J3, or RegionalClerk@regionofwaterloo.ca.

Following the public input, a final report will be prepared by the Waste Management Services division and submitted to Planning & Works Committee on May 26, 2015.  Regional Council is scheduled to make a decision on June 3, 2015.
