Section of Mill Run Trail to close September 5 for construction

Beginning Tuesday, September 5, Mill Run Trail will be closed at Speedsville Road as part of preparations for a new pedestrian crossover.

The pedestrian crossover will improve the trail experience for users by providing a traffic controlled crossing at Speedville Road. Trail users will be able to push a button to activate flashing lights at the crossing, signaling motorists to stop.

It also supports the city’s active transportation network, providing a practical, convenient and safe option for residents and visitors and encourages healthy and active living as part of a balanced transportation system.

The crossover will be completed in two phases. The first phase involves the trail closure to construct new concrete landing pads, modify existing guard rails and install poles bases.

During the closure there will be no access across Speedville Road. The trail is expected to reopen on September 20, 2023.

Installation of the pedestrian crossover equipment will take place during phase two of the project and is expected to take place in late October.
