Second fixed vaccination clinic opens

Waterloo Region – The second fixed vaccination clinic opened in Waterloo Region at 435 The Boardwalk this morning, marking another major milestone in the community’s vaccine roll-out. This follows the opening of the first fixed vaccination clinic at Grand River Hospital in December.

Adults 80 years of age and older are currently being vaccinated at the clinic, followed by others who are eligible as part of the Phase One priority populations.

“This is an exciting day and a very significant day for residents, and this is one of many openings right across Waterloo Region,” said Regional Chair, Karen Redman. “I want to thank and acknowledge the partnerships that led to today’s opening, from staff at the Region of Waterloo to staff at the City of Waterloo and beyond, as well as the great partnership with The Boardwalk. I also want to thank the many volunteers who are helping in the important roll out of the vaccine. The spirit of partnership and volunteerism is shining through.”

The clinic at 435 The Boardwalk provides an accessible location for vaccinations and is well positioned to serve residents from across Waterloo Region.

“While we recognize that we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, today’s opening brings hope to so many people in our region,” said Cynthia Voisin, Managing Partner at The Boardwalk. “Our new building, Medical Centre 2 at 435 The Boardwalk, is an ideal location with direct access by transit, ample free parking and many accessible spaces next to the building, dedicated to healthcare. It is our priority for patients to have a positive experience and my team is incredibly proud to deliver clinic space for the distribution of the vaccine.”

As the ramp-up continues, an additional clinic location will also open in Cambridge during the week of March 8. This will serve adults 80 years of age and older and others who are eligible in Phase One.

“This is a great day for the Region of Waterloo and will help ensure those who want to be vaccinated can do so as quickly as possible,” said WRPS Deputy Chief Shirley Hilton, who leads the Vaccination Task Force. “Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working to open other sites that are able to administer vaccination doses, which demonstrates the hard work that is going on behind the scenes by everyone involved in the task force. I want to thank all the staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to ensure these clinics run smoothly and effectively.”

To attend a vaccination clinic, residents must have an appointment and be eligible under provincial guidance for Phase One. Eligible residents are encouraged to pre-register. Those who have pre-registered will be contacted to set up an appointment; more details will be provided at the time of booking.
