Residents encouraged to prepare storm debris for curbside yard waste collection

Waterloo Region – Residents cleaning up from Friday’s storm are encouraged to prepare branches and leaves for curbside collection, and set them out with their regular bi-weekly yard waste collection.

Branches must be bundled and tied with jute or twine. Bundles must be under 92 cm (3 feet) in length, and branches must be less than 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. Yard waste can also be placed out in kraft paper bags, or a garbage can with a Region Yard Waste sticker or brightly coloured ribbon identifying it as yard waste. All bundles and containers must weigh less than 23 kgs (50 lbs). Please do not put yard waste in blue boxes, cardboard boxes, green bins, or plastic bags.

Yard waste can also be brought to the Cambridge (201 Savage Drive) or Waterloo (925 Erb Street West, Gate 2) transfer stations, Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for disposal. Regular tipping fees will apply: dedicated loads of yard waste are $3.70 per 100 kg (minimum $2.00).  Please note that surcharge fees may apply in the case of stumps, or other large materials requiring extra handling.

Yard waste collection is in the City of Kitchener and Township of Wilmot the week of July 22.  The Cities of Cambridge and Waterloo, and Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley and Woolwich will have their regular yard waste collection the week of July 29.

Please place yard waste to the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day. We ask that residents please be patient with collection crews, as the volume of material may cause collection delays, and thank residents in advance for properly preparing materials to help speed collection as much as possible.
