Residents asked to help shape the future of garbage collection
Waterloo Region – Regional Council has asked staff to look at other municipalities and consider program changes to decrease the amount of garbage ending up in our landfill. Residents are invited to complete a short survey to provide input on several possible options under consideration.
Possible options from the new Waste Management Master Plan include:
- Standardizing the collection of waste across all seven municipalities of Waterloo Region.
- Bag limits and/or every other week garbage collection, with unlimited weekly blue box and green bin collection.
- User-pay options such as bag tags to allow residents the flexibility to have more waste collected at the curb, if needed.
Residents can view more information or complete the survey on the Region’s website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/wastechanges through December 21, 2014. The survey can also be completed over the phone by calling 519-575-4400.
Results from the survey will help shape the proposed recommendations for waste collection that staff will present for Council’s consideration in the spring of 2015. Any changes approved by Council will happen over a period of several years.
Information on waste collection and diversion programs can be found on our website at www.regionofwaterloo.ca/waste, in our township calendars, or by calling 519-575-4400.
