Remembrance Day 2021

This Thursday, November 11, we remember and honour Canada’s Veterans who put their lives on the line for our country. Due to ongoing COVID-19 Public Health guidelines, Remembrance Day services will still look a bit different this year. To ensure everyone’s safety by following current Public Health guidelines, large ceremonies and processions will not be happening this year, but here are a few ways you can still pay your respects along with our local Legions.

Those who choose to attend any of the following services are asked to practice physical distancing, wear a face covering if you are unable to maintain 6 feet or come back at another time.

  • The Galt Legion is holding a very small procession at the Cenotaph in Queen’s Square at 10:30 a.m. There will be no parade and no gathering after.
  • The Preston Legion is holding a small procession at the Preston Cenotaph at King & Argyle for 10:45 a.m. with no parade and no gathering after.
  • The Hespeler Legion is asking that wreaths be laid ahead of time and people drop by for a few moments of quiet reflection throughout the day.
  • Experience the Cambridge Poppy Project installation - a community project featuring over 33,000 poppies handmade by residents of Cambridge, others in Ontario, and across Canada. For more information including locations please visit: www.cambridgepoppyproject.ca/
  • Visit the Old Post Office from 7 to 9 p.m. to view our commemorative Remembrance Day image projected onto the building.
  • The Cambridge Sign and pedestrian bridge will also be lit red and white until Friday, November 12.

In accordance with the Government of Canada National Flag of Canada half-masting notices, at sunrise tonight, all flags at City municipal buildings will be raised to full-mast. On Remembrance Day, Thursday, November 11, flags will be lowered before ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m.

In a statement from the Government of Canada on November 5, after Remembrance Day ceremonies have concluded, flags will be raised to full-mast and remain at full-mast. Moving forward, the National Flag of Canada and all City of Cambridge municipal building flags will be half-masted to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation every September 30.
