Regional facilities open for business after ice storm

Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo facilities are open for business today and Regional programs and services are operating normally.

Regional and city snow plows and salt trucks are continuing to clear roads. Some areas remain icy, so use caution if you have to drive.

Garbage collection will continue today but may be delayed due to poor road conditions. All garbage and recycling containers must be placed at street level, in front of any snow banks. Bundled branches will be collected with garbage the week of December 23, and as part of the Christmas tree collection program Dec. 30 – Jan. 10. The Region is working with each city on plans to clear larger fallen branches and trees. The Region’s waste management transfer stations will waive the tipping fee for residents who bring in small quantities of brush cleared from their properties until Jan. 11.

Grand River Transit buses are running on a holiday service schedule. Some routes have been detoured due to downed trees and power lines. Get the details at www.grt.ca.

The Region of Waterloo International Airport is open but some flights may be delayed or cancelled due to the weather. Check the airport’s website for details: http://www.waterlooairport.ca/en/flightinformation/arrivalsdepartures.asp.
