Regional Council reinforces community priorities at 2021 AMO Conference
Waterloo Region –Regional Chair Karen Redman as well as Council colleagues advocated on behalf of residents on the provincial stage during the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s 2021 Conference.
The delegation, which included Chair Redman and Councillors Berry Vrbanovic, Kathryn McGarry, Dave Jaworsky, Sue Foxton and Sandy Shantz, met with municipal and provincial leaders to discuss initiatives that support ongoing and post-pandemic economic prosperity.
Council advocated the need for greater transportation options along the innovation corridor including two-way all-day GO train service and a future GO station in Breslau; improving equity, access and affordability for childcare, as well as advocating for the national childcare plan; and reinforced Waterloo Region’s role as an important catalyst in the province’s post-pandemic economic recovery plan.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that now more than ever, it’s important for all levels of government to work together to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our province,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “The Region of Waterloo is building a world-class community that fosters opportunities for current and future generations. Regional Council is determined to continue working with our provincial and federal partners to deliver affordable and accessible programs and services that meet the needs of residents.”
Chair Redman moderated a panel about Ontario’s new policing act during the conference, and also participated in a panel on TVO about strengthening municipal public health.
