Regional Chair statement on groundbreaking at north Pickering long-term care home

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“Today (March 15), the Region of Durham was pleased to be joined by Stan Cho, Minister of Long-Term Care, for the groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the Region’s newest long-term care home in north Pickering.

The new facility will be a wonderful addition to the four existing regionally owned and operated long-term care homes. The health services provided here will ensure that residents may age with dignity; it will help alleviate long-term care home shortages and capacity issues; and provide Durham’s aging population with the quality of care and life they deserve.

As Durham Region continues to grow, it is essential that we prioritize the health, well-being and quality of life of our aging population. I am confident that this new home will become a fixture in the Seaton community—it will add to the diversity and vitality of this neighbourhood for years to come and provide its 200 residents with a beautiful, modern place to call home.

On behalf of the Region of Durham, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Ministry of Long-Term Care for their significant investment into this new facility and shared vision of creating safe, vibrant communities where residents can age safely and comfortably.”
