Region to hold final rain barrel distribution

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo will hold the last ever rain barrel distribution on Saturday, April 28, 2012 beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lots of Conestoga Mall, Fairview Park Mall and Cambridge Centre. Barrels will be sold for $40 each on a first-come, first-served basis until 3 p.m. or while quantities last.

A total of 43,000 rain barrels have been distributed by the Region since 2001 when the program was launched. 2012 will be the last chance for Region residents to purchase a subsidized barrel.

“The program has been enormously successful at putting water conservation on the map in Waterloo Region,” said Water Efficiency Manager Steve Gombos. “But all good things must come to an end, so we’re giving residents one last chance to purchase a barrel before the program ends.”

There is a limit of one barrel per person, per household and buyers must show proof of address within Waterloo Region to qualify.
