Region’s largest vaccination clinic introduces hockey-hub model to rapidly administer more third doses

Waterloo Region – Vaccination clinics across Waterloo Region are ramping up to get more third doses in arms as rapidly as possible. Cambridge Pinebush, the region’s largest vaccination clinic, is introducing the hockey-hub model this week to increase vaccine capacity.

The innovative hockey-hub model has proven to be an efficient and convenient way to deliver vaccines. This model can administer more vaccines with fewer clinical staff than traditional mass vaccination clinics. With the introduction of the hockey-hub model to Cambridge Pinebush, this vaccination clinic will be able to administer approximately 14,000 doses of vaccine each week.

The Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic location also features Indigenous immunizers, family and child-friendly “Camp Pinebush,” sensory-friendly spaces, and vaccination booths for individuals with mobility challenges. This vaccination clinic has operated under the leadership of Grand River Hospital since it opened with the support of many health professionals, administrative staff and volunteers.

Members of the public can book an appointment to get a third dose of the vaccine at the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic, or any other regional vaccination clinic, on the Region of Waterloo website: regionofwaterloo.ca/getavaccine.
