Region Offering Over $3.4 Million for Construction-Ready Affordable Housing Proposals

Waterloo Region – Today, the Region launched an Affordable Housing Request for Proposal (RFP) to allocate $3,424,500 in funding to support the work of non-profits, co-ops, the private sector and local governments in the creation of affordable housing projects.

As part of its 2022 Affordable Housing RFP (with criteria), the Region is seeking construction-ready development proposals to create new affordable housing units for low to moderate-income households. The funding includes $1,464,500 from the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiatives (OPHI) and $1,960,000 from the Region of Waterloo Tax Levy for a total of $3,424,500.

“Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges we face across the Region of Waterloo,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “We welcome proposals that will contribute to the goal of our Building Better Futures Plan to create 2,500 affordable homes in five years."

The Region will accept submissions until 2 p.m. on September 19, 2022. More information, including the proposal form, is available on the Region’s Bid Opportunities page.
