Region of Waterloo to launch new TravelWise association
The Region of Waterloo will launch a new TravelWise Transportation Management Association on Jan. 17, 2012 with public agencies and local businesses.
The Transportation Management Association provides an assortment of tools and services, aimed at reducing the number of people driving alone to work. Twelve organizations from across the region, including the Cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, Equitable Life Canada, Hendry Coach Lines, Miller Thomson LLP, Open Text, Paradigm Transportation Solutions, Region of Waterloo, Research In Motion, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, have already committed to membership.
TravelWise works with organizations to provide innovative strategies that encourage employees to use active and sustainable transportation. Walking, cycling, taking transit or carpooling to work helps to ease parking concerns, relieve traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote healthy lifestyles and improve quality of life.
Participating organizations will gain access to a variety of services, which will include a ridematching program, Emergency Ride Home services, Grand River Transit Corporate Pass, and supporting marketing and information services.
The official launch of the Transportation Management Association takes place on Jan. 17, 2012, with Regional Chair Ken Seiling and distinguished members of Waterloo Region's business community celebrating their commitment to sustainable commuting.
