Region of Waterloo resident one of Ontario's outstanding seniors
Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo resident Donald “Donny” Hishon is one of Ontario’s outstanding seniors.
Hishon is one of 15 recipients of Ontario’s Senior Achievement Award. The Award, given to up to 20 individuals a year, recognizes seniors for significant contributions to their community in a variety of areas, such as the arts, community service, volunteering and education.
With more than 17 years of community service, Hishon is the lead facilitator for Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings at the Grand Valley Institute for Women. He volunteers with the reintegration program to help prepare women for their future and trains new volunteers. Hishon was recognized as Kitchener’s Senior of the Year in 2021.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Donny Hishon on this special recognition,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “There is no age limit to community service. People like Donny, who give back to their community selflessly, make the Region of Waterloo a great place to live.”
The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, is recognizing Hishon and the 14 other recipients in a virtual ceremony along with Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.
