Region of Waterloo Library Announces 2018 Artist-in-Residence
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo Library (RWL) is pleased to announce that Angela Grasse of Kitchener, Ontario is the selected artist for the 2018 artist-in-residence program.
“Angela’s passion for literacy shines through her work and is such a natural fit with the library”, said Kelly Bernstein, Manager, Library Services. “We’re so pleased that the artist-in-residence program is entering its third year and that we’re able to continue to offer artistic programing to the community.”
Mostly self-taught, Angela has, over the past 20 years, developed her practice of exploration and experimentation with multimedia art. Having studied under 13 artists, Angela was introduced to various mediums and techniques from which she pulled inspiration to help grow her own artistic style.
Her work has exhibited extensively in Waterloo Region, including locations like Kitchener City Hall, The Button Factory, Wilfrid Laurier University, Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, and the Homer Watson Gallery. “It’s such a pleasure to have this residency opportunity and to involve the community in the transformation of the written word using colour, texture, and memorabilia into works of altered book art.”
The six-month artist-in-residence program, running January to June 2018, is made possible by the generous Taylor Bequest. The program will be based out of the Ayr branch with off-shoot events taking place at other RWL branches. There will be free community engagement opportunities like artist drop-in hours, displays, hands-on activities and a community altered book project, which are intended to engage and include the community in this creative program.
Meet Angela Grasse at the Opening Reception in the Ayr branch on Saturday, February 10, 1-2:30 p.m. Register for this and other winter programs as of Tuesday, December 12 at www.rwlibrary.ca.
