Region of Waterloo hosts Spills Prevention Workshop

KITCHENER, ON – The Region of Waterloo is hosting the Spills Prevention Workshop on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Complex in Waterloo.

A spill can have devastating consequences, from cleanup costs, fines and health implications, to wasted time and damaged assets. Spills can also impact the environment including our source water supply. It only takes one drop of oil to contaminate thousands of litres of water. Once a contaminant enters our source water it becomes a costly and difficult process to clean up.

Prevention is always the best tactic, so once a year the Region of Waterloo Water Services offers the Spills Prevention Workshop. Businesses learn from experts on how to prevent and prepare for a spill and respond to one if the situation should arise. This workshop is a must for any organization transporting, handling or storing hazardous materials including motor oils, paints, fuels and other chemicals.

The workshop provides a full day in the classroom covering spills prevention and response. An optional half-day hands-on training will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

The workshop will be held at the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Complex, 1001 Erb’s Road, Waterloo on Thursday, October 13 (full day) and Wednesday, October 26 (optional half day). There is a registration fee of $200 to attend both days or $120 for one day. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required.
