Region of Waterloo goes fully virtual for second round of public engagement on Regional Official Plan Review

Waterloo Region – Hosting public engagements to receive feedback on Regional plans is a long-standing tradition for the Region of Waterloo. However, this time around, instead of hosting the feedback sessions in person, the Region will be hosting its first, fully virtual public engagement session.

The public engagement session, being held on June 25, 2020 from 6-8 p.m., will focus on how Waterloo Region anticipates to grow to the year 2041. Community Planners will present new information about intensification, density, major transit station areas, answer questions from the public, and engage in conversation that will frame future opportunities for growth.

“Hearing from our public and stakeholders is an important part of the Regional Official Plan review,” said Michelle Sergi, Director of Community Planning. “With social gathering limitations still in place, moving the public engagement piece to a virtual forum only made sense, and we’re hoping the virtual setting will allow more members of the public to join us and share their feedback.”

The virtual public engagement session is not the only technological stride the Region has recently made. The abrupt closure to Regional facilities due to the pandemic has lead to other services being offered in different ways, including new online services. Examples include online Regional Council meetings, accepting more online payments, virtual seminars and support, and online media briefings.
