Region of Waterloo asks families to help shape the future of child care

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is asking families what they believe are the key priorities for child care as work begins on a service plan that will provide direction for the planning and delivery of child care over the next five years.

Until May 6, residents in Waterloo Region can fill out a survey online through Engage Region of Waterloo (www.peakdemocracy.ca/1646). Feedback from the survey will be used to shape the 2016 – 2020 Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Service Plan. The plan will reflect the Region’s ongoing commitment to the development and delivery of a high quality, inclusive system of early learning and care for children and their families.

“We want to ensure the service we provide meets the needs of the community, and identify areas we need to focus on,” said Nancy Dickieson, Director of Children’s Services. “This means connecting early in the planning process with parents, guardians, grandparents, and anyone who has experienced child care to make sure we are moving in the right direction.”

Parents are encouraged to share the issues they face around accessing and paying for child care and what, if anything, they would change about their child care experience.

Children’s Services is a division of the Region of Waterloo responsible for managing the early learning and child care (ELCC) system and services, in consultation with its community partners and organizations. The division oversees local licensed early learning and child care in areas such as funding, special needs resources, child care fee subsidy and OneList Waterloo Region.
