Region of Waterloo Arts Fund and Good Foundation announce new relationship to support Waterloo Region arts community

Region of Waterloo Arts Fund Board members and family members of the London-based Good Foundation are pleased to announce that the Foundation has donated $40,000 to the Arts Fund for disbursement on behalf of the Good Foundation in its fall 2019 granting cycle. 

The Good Foundation is committed to maintaining its support of the Waterloo Region arts community while it streamlines its granting program.  Through this new relationship with the Arts Fund, The Good Foundation will be able to maintain its support of the arts in Waterloo Region.

Established by the late Milton and Verna Good in 1974, the Good Foundation distributes funds to charitable organizations in communities of which family members are a part.  Since its establishment, the Good Foundation has granted more than $6.5 million to arts and culture groups.  The Region of Waterloo Arts Fund was created by the Waterloo Regional Council in 2002, and since 2003, it has granted more than $3.6 million to arts projects in Waterloo Region. 

In his letter to the Region, Foundation President Jim Good reflected on the good will established between the two funding groups: “Good Foundation Inc. has much in common with the Arts Fund.  Since its beginnings in Waterloo Region in 1974, the Foundation has made many local grants relating to arts and culture.  We now have a minimal presence in Waterloo Region which makes our granting here more difficult.  Your Arts Fund already has in place an excellent adjudication process.  We believe our aims will be well served by adding some funds to what your Arts Fund currently distributes.”

Chair of the Arts Fund Board Betty Anne Keller expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Arts Fund’s volunteer board.  “We are honoured to have been given the opportunity and responsibility to carry on the philanthropic legacy created by the Good family in the name of Milton and Verna Good.”
